The Pleasantville Police Department Firearms Investigation Unit assists residents with the application, processing, and registration of firearms.

The State of New Jersey has adopted an electronic firearms application process. Follow the instructions below for the FARS application.

The procedures for FARS will be as follows:

1. Go to the FARS portal at https://www.njportal.com/NJSP/Fars (Please note that the FARS portal is not administered by the Pleasantville Police Department)
2. The first section of the online application you will be required to enter the ORI number for the Pleasantville Police Department, which is NJ0011900. You must enter this number correctly or you cannot proceed.
3. When completing the online application, you will need to submit the email addresses of two (2) reputable references. Please advise your references that the FARS portal will email them the questions to be answered. They may need to check their spam or junk folder. Please advise your references to complete the questions immediately to progress your background investigation.
4. Fees will be paid online to the State of New Jersey by debit or credit card. No refunds can be issued.
5. If you have never been fingerprinted for a firearms purpose in New Jersey, you will need to schedule an appointment with IdentoGO by clicking here. If you have been fingerprinted before for a firearms purpose in New Jersey, you do not need to be fingerprinted again.

The online application process is APPLICANT DRIVEN. Please ensure that your references respond in a timely manner. All firearms identification cards and purchase permits are now electronic. You will receive an email from the New Jersey State Police when your documents can be downloaded. You no longer need to come to the police station to obtain the firearms identification card or purchase permits.
